Short Info baghdadNY - Building Bridges Between Two Cultures - A Public Art Project (Projekt wurde nicht realisiert) Date: 2004-2004 Client: Author Project The goal Baghdad and New York have become symbols of the Arab-Western conflict. Both cities, one in the West, the other in the Arab world, are rebuilding after the trauma of a massive attack. We conceived baghdadNY, an interactive internet / communication platform, to provide the citizens of both places with the unique chance to virtually meet and communicate with each other; to learn about each others' culture, to overcome prejudices and to initiate new relationships among both cities' cultural, academic and business communities. The plan We plan to install seven fotobots in prominent public spaces each in Baghdad and New York City. Fotobots are internet portrait robot installed behind store windows, which can be activated by passersby to take self portraits. The portraits will immediately show up on the fotobots in the other city and will therefore start a visual dialog. The portraits will also be transfered to the Arab-English website www.baghdadNY.net, where texts can be added. We will invite public figures in the arts, media, academia and politics to act as impartial moderators of discussion forums on the website. |
The partners We welcome partnerships with public and private institutions, NGOs, universities, telecom companies, media corporations, and links to other projects with similar content. Depending on the synergies created with our partners, baghdadNY can be expanded to launch other initiatives, such as collaborations among universities, business networks, and information and service exchanges.
